We have returned from a wonderful weekend on Skye. It’s lovely that gradually the island is starting to prepare for the new season. The Isle of Skye Baking Company has re-opened, the Artworks gallery above ‘the food shop with seats’ is looking great and the new website is up and running too – isleofskyebakingco.co.uk
It’s hard to believe that less than a year ago the shell of Applegate had only just been erected. We really enjoyed the building process, the subsequent furnishing and the ongoing creation of the Applegate garden. In our small development of five houses three are now well established, one well on its way and the last site is fenced and ready to be built on later in the year. Fortunately Applegate is not affected by the last bits of development and our guests and ourselves will still enjoy a peaceful stay with uninterrupted views.
The frame, complete with doors and windows, is made on Skye. It is all delivered and erected within six hours. If you’re interested in how it’s done why not have a look at the website http://www.ruralhouse.co.uk The remainder of the build usually takes another two to three months and then the exciting day of the handover of the keys. For us this was May 7th last year.
We are looking forward to continuing planting in our cultivated part of the garden and trying to identify the variety of native flowers, including some orchids, in the wild area the other side of the burn.
